Faculty of Commerce Admissions Requirements
(a) Diploma in Commerce
The Diploma in Commerce is offered on a full-time basis to cover the first three years of
the Bachelor of Commerce programme.
Entrance Requirements:
In addition to the general requirements for a degree programme, candidates for the Diploma
programme must have:
(ii) C grade or better in English Language and Mathematics plus a credit in a minimum of
two subjects drawn from the list below:
History
Physical Science
Geography
Chemistry
Human
and Social Biology Physics
SiSwati
Biology
Principles
of Accounts
Bible Knowledge
Agriculture
Commerce
Additional
Mathematics
Economics
General
Science
French
OR
(iii) A credit pass or better in the certificate in Accounting and Business Studies/
Commerce OR
(iv) A pass in the certificate programme plus two years of relevant practical experience
after completing the certificate programme. OR
(v) A recognized equivalent qualification.
(b) Bachelor of Commerce
The Bachelor of Commerce degree programme will run for a period of two years after
successful completion of a Diploma in Commerce programme. Students will be given an
opportunity to major in one of the following:
Accounting
B.Com.
(Accounting)
Marketing
B.Com.
(Marketing)
Management
B.Com.
(Management)
Entrance Requirements:
(i) O Level Candidates
A candidate who wishes to be considered for admission to the Bachelor of Commerce degree
must first apply for admission to the Diploma in Commerce to successfully complete the
first three years after which she/he may proceed to year four of the B.Com degree
programme if he/she has obtained an overall average of 60% or above, and a credit in
Principles of Marketing, or Organisational Behaviour or Financial Accounting II. A
candidate in the Pass category needs a minimum of two years working experience, before
being allowed to transfer to the Degree Programme. The Candidates application must be
accompanied by a letter from his/her employer confirming a minimum of two years working
experience.
(ii) Holders of the Diploma in Accounting and Business Studies who obtained a Credit or
better will be eligible to enter Year 3 of the Diploma in Commerce Programme. After Year
3, if they obtain an overall minimum of 60%, and a Credit in Principles of Marketing or
Organisational Behaviour or Financial Accounting II, they will be eligible to enter Year 4
of the B.Com programme. Those in the Pass category need a minimum of two years working
experience before they can transfer. Such students will not be awarded a Diploma in
Commerce certificate.
(iii) Holders of the Diploma in Accounting and Business Studies or Association of
Accounting Technicians (AAT) Level 3, in the pass category who have spent a minimum of two
years in a relevant practical work situation after graduation will be eligible to enter
Year 3 of the Diploma/Degree programme.
