Faculty of Health Sciences Admissions Requirements

Admission Requirements into the Faculty of Health Sciences

Programmes of study are offered in the following diplomas:

Diploma in General Nursing

Diploma in Environmental Health

Entrance Requirements:

The minimum entrance requirements for all diploma programmes offered by the Faculty are:

O-Level Admissions:

A minimum of six passes in the G.C.E. O-LEVEL obtained in not more than two sittings, which must include passes at C grade or better in:

(i) English Language, Mathematics and two of the following:

(ii)

Biology Chemistry
Physics Science (Physics/Chemistry)
Human & Social Biology Combined Science
Additional Combined Science Geography (for Environmental Health)

Or a recognized equivalent qualification

A Level Admissions:

A student may be exempted from taking courses already passed at A Level with a C grade or better.

Candidates Outside Swaziland

Candidates not resident in Swaziland, may, subject to the approval of both the Admissions Committee and the Faculty of Health Sciences be admitted directly into programmes of the Faculty of Health Sciences provided the special requirements indicated in the specific programme are complied with.

Post Diploma Certificate Programmes

(a) Post Diploma Certificate in Midwifery Science

Entrance Requirements:

Diploma in General Nursing (or similar qualification) and registration with the Swaziland Nursing Council.

(b) Post Diploma in Community Health Nursing Science

Entrance Requirements:

Diploma in General Nursing (or similar qualification) and the Diploma in Midwifery Science as well as registration with the Swaziland Nursing Council, both as nurse as a midwife.

(c) Post Diploma in Community Mental Health Nursing Science

Entrance Requirements:

Diploma in General Nursing Science (or similar qualification) and registration with the Swaziland Nursing Council.

Degree programmes in Health Sciences

Programmes of study may be offered for the following degrees:

Bachelor of Nursing Science

Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health

(a) Bachelor of Nursing Science

The degree programme is of five year duration.

Entrance Requirements:

New Curriculum

(in) A credit pass or better in the Diploma in General Nursing Science of the University of Swaziland.

(ii) Current registration with the Swaziland Nursing Council as a nurse.

(iii) Holders of a Diploma in Nursing Science of the University of Swaziland in the pass category who have a minimum of two years in a relevant work situation after graduation shall be eligible to enter year four of the Bachelor of Nursing Science Degree Programmes.

Old Curriculum

To qualify for admission to the Bachelor of Nursing Science candidates must have

A. For Advanced Medical-Surgical Nursing

(i) A 3 year Diploma in General Nursing or equivalent

(ii) A Diploma in Midwifery or a Diploma in Community Mental Health (Psychiatric) Nursing.

(iii) Current registration with the Swaziland Nursing Council

(iv) A minimum of two years working experience in relevant work situation

B. For Community Health Nursing

(i) A 3 year Diploma in General Nursing or equivalent

(ii) A Diploma in Midwifery

(iii) Current registration with the Swaziland Nursing Council

(iv) A minimum of two years working experience in relevant work situation.

Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health

The degree programme is of five years duration.

Entrance Requirements:

(i) A credit pass or better in the Diploma in Environmental Health of the University of Swaziland

OR

(ii) Diploma in Public Health Inspection

OR

(iii) Holders of the Diploma in Environmental Health/Diploma in Public Health Inspection in the pass category with a minimum of two years relevant work experience after graduation shall also be eligible to enter year 4 of the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health Programme.
