The vision of the University of Swaziland is Leadership Through Excellence in Education.

Mission

The mission of the University of Swaziland is to achieve Excellence in teaching and learning, research and research training, community service, provision of opportunities for consultancy, professional leadership and enterprise development in the contemporary context.

The mission shall be achieved through:

1. providing education opportunities at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
2. establishing new academic programmes designed to meet the emerging needs of society;
3. conducting a regular review of the academic programmes to make them demand-driven to stakeholders;
4. creating continuing education opportunities for the inculcation of life-long learning;
5. generating, disseminating and preserving knowledge through research, stakeholders' participation and development of an institutional repository;
6. teaching that encourages participation of students in entrepreneurship endeavours;
7. accounting to stakeholders that fosters efficient utilization of resources;
8. coordinating and monitoring performance among all employees and periodic evaluation and review of activities; and
9. providing an excellent working and learning environment for staff and students.

Values and Principles

In order to achieve its vision and mission the University upholds the following set of values and principles as central to its mandate of teaching and learning, research and training and community service:

1. academic freedom, autonomy, quality and excellence in the enquiry, creation and dissemination of new knowledge by staff and students;
2. integrity and honesty in the delivery of service to all stakeholders;
3. promoting a spirit of professionalism and ethical standards in the interaction of staff and students as scholars;
4. self-renewal attainable through open access and lifelong learning;
5. an environment that promotes collegiality and teamwork across disciplines;
6. good governance demonstrated through leadership excellence, accountability and transparency;
7. non-discrimination in the recruitment of highly qualified staff and students to meet individual, national and international needs while being gender sensitive;
8. aligning the curricula and research agenda to the national and international needs and standards;
9. equitable access to/and allocation of opportunities and resources at all levels while seeking to meet cultural diversity and various special needs;
10. participation of staff in public, private, institutional and civic partnerships for cross-fertilisation of ideas and acquisition of new knowledge;
